George White motorcycles goes into administration

It’s a grim week for the Motorcycle trade in the UK, as once more the largest chain of stores has closed, just like the other multi store giants in the past… Motorcycle City / Carnells etc… This link has more details on the Plymouth store which used to be GT Motorcycles… Click Here…

It’s a big loss to the industry and a sure sign of how tuff it is at the moment, and one we are also aware of, after choosing to close our Worcester Branch at the end of last year in order to concentrate on the Birmingham and Daventry stores as it was clear that the market was not growing and hard choices needed to be made.

We wish all the staff at George Whites the best of luck in finding new jobs very quickly in these times..

Added 30/01/2011 + New link on MCN website, but as usual with the MCN actually, no help line No’s or info of actual use MCN LINK

I would expect MCN are one of the big losers in all this as George White Motorcycles had so much advertising in there publications, I can’t imagine they have been paid out.. and with page adverts running between 3-5k a week, I think it’s fair to say the MCN monopoly on advertising is not helping the Industry at all… and push’s companies to stack high and sell cheep to try and generate the money to fund these adverts…

Phoenix Distribution is Shutting DownPhoenix Distribution is Shutting Down

Phoenix Distribution is Shutting Down

Yep, another week and another part of the motorcycle industry is closing it’s doors.. At least this time it is not a case of just finishing but instead closing it’s doors in a timely manner so the Products it handles can find new routes to the UK Market, the main one being Arai Helmets of course, but also Yoshimura, Nolan.

With Phoenix already closing it’s tie’s with Revit last year and Abus early this year it was clear something was a foot, but this is still one of the back bones of the industry for quality products in the UK motorcycle market, and will be missed.

From the information we have been given it seems they are trying to get Arai Europe to slip into the void they will leave, but with a european base already firmly established in Belgium they have always been keen to leave the UK market to Phoenix, but now looks like they must make a choice quickly… Many company’s already supply direct to all european country’s from one base so this will not be out of the realm of possibility, but like many have also found this has lost them market share and the social contact between them and the shops/customers.

What ever happens we wish everyone at Phoenix the best and a big thanks for your support over the past years…. + look forward to what may come of this…..

Guy Martin’s Big Brew 2012

Guy Martin’s Big Brew 4 – 7th May 2012

Date: April 16, 2012

Join in with Guy Martin’s Big Brew 2012

Road racing legend Guy Martin wants us all to have a ‘proper mug of tea’ at participating venues over the Bank Holiday weekend of 4th-7th May 2012, in support of Spinal Research.

All around the UK kettles will be boiling, tea will be brewed and fundraising activities will be underway.  A number of partners have signed up so far, from motorcycle dealerships and Hein Gericke stores, to biker cafes, motorcycle owners’ clubs, IAM and individual riders, all with a view to raising money and giving something back.

Spinal Research has a dedicated campaign specifically for motorcyclists called Ride Out and The Big Brew is one of the key events in their biking calendar.  Riding a motorbike is an exhilarating experience and there’s little to compare to the excitement, adrenalin and freedom of being on two wheels. But things can and do go wrong and The Big Brew is a fun way to make a donation to the charity, which aims to restore movement and feeling to people who are paralysed and ultimately get them back on their motorcycles.

After Guy’s accident during the 2010 Isle of Man TT, he realised just how lucky he was to make a full recovery.  He decided to combine his love of tea with motorbikes and the inaugural Big Brew in 2011 was a great success.

“I’m putting my support and tea drinking enthusiasm behind The Big Brew and want to ask motorcyclists to get involved and do the same.  I was lucky that I wasn’t paralysed when I broke the vertebrae in my back at the Isle of Man TT in 2010, but not every rider is as fortunate as me. Taking part in The Big Brew can make all the difference to people living with paralysis.”  Guy Martin, Ride Out for Spinal Research Supporter

Show and Grow

To make this year’s event even more fun you can enter a ‘grow your own sideburns’ competition.

Male Guy Martin fans might decide to ‘grow their own’ or sponsor a friend, while the girls might decide to design jewelled or painted sideburns, so they can take part too.  The winner of the best sideburns as judged by Guy will win a Focused Events track day on the full Moto GP Silverstone circuit at any of their 2012 events.

Visit your local participating dealership  during the Big Brew weekend, to have your photograph taken with your best ‘mutton chops’ and be entered into the competition. You can also tweet your side burn growth images to TheBigBrew or share their evolution on Facebook to give your facial hair the recognition it deserves!

While you are in-store remember to enter the FREE prize draw for you and a friend to meet Guy at a race meeting later in the year.

We will also be raising money at Daventry by  Raffling Suzuki clothing, and other great prizes, ask instore for details.

Check out the video on the evolution of the sideburn through the ages and keep updated with the latest information at www.spinalresearch.org

Don’t forget, anyone can arrange an event, large or small, every donation helps fund ground breaking research to help people who have been paralysed by spinal cord injury.  There will be a prize for the two people who raise the most money to meet Guy at a race event later this year.  So get the kettle on and get involved.

It’s an exciting time for Spinal Research as they stand on the brink of clinical trials that will transform the lives of people living with paralysis, improving sensation, movement and their quality of life. But to do this they need your support.
